I think I had one of the most rewarding & magical afternoons today. Given the circumstances and uncertainty in today’s world, it was refreshing to photograph a group of girls who share a strong bond and friendship. Things are so very desolate and still right now, and the emotion and energy these girls exhibited in the front of the camera was palpable.
Ieva Šmitaitė is a foreign exchange student from Lithuania. Her host parents are Nathan and Jenn Lamb of Pipestone. Jenn reached out to me and mentioned that given the circumstances of COVID-19 and the impact it has had on students in the academic year, Ieva’s stay here in the United States may be cut short. Though they don’t know when she will have to return to her home country, Jenn wanted to give her the experience of an American prom before she left.
A bunch of Ieva’s friends got together in their prom dresses, full make-up and hair, and surprised her with an impromptu prom photo session. The girls looked stunning.
